CALL FOR PAPERS
Special Issue on
Semantics of People and Culture
http://web.media.mit.edu/~hugo/publications/ijswis-culturalsemantics-cfp
.txt
International Journal on Semantic
Web and Information Systems (IJSWIS)
(ISSN 1552-6283, Idea Group Publishing)
BACKGROUND
The preferences and social patterns of people --as they=20
exist outside of being 'users' of overly narrow application
domains-- constitutes a more versatile 'people semantics'--=20
affording us deeper personalization, match-making, and=20
search. With over 50 million people on social networks, a=20
mature blog culture, and the emergence of tag-based=20
communities such as del.icio.us, last.fm and flickr, there=20
is today an ample cultural corpus for mining and modeling=20
the semantics of people and culture. Semantic desiderata=20
for modeling include aesthetic factors (psychographics,=20
tastes, dispositions, personal attitudes), social factors=20
(connectedness, reputation, influence), and cultural=20
factors (ideology, collective attitudes, epidemics).
CALL FOR PAPERS
For this IJSWIS special issue on the Semantics of People=20
and Culture, we welcome original contributions which=20
present new techniques, formalisms, empirical studies, and=20
implemented applications relevant to the semantic modeling=20
of people, cultures, and communities. Of particular=20
interest are papers which add new perspectives to semantic=20
web research, including but certainly not limited to the=20
following topics:
=09
* modeling the 'implicit semantics' of people and culture
* affective and aesthetic factors in semantic processing=09
* community-based knowledge and preference acquisition
* emergent semantics of culture and communities
* analyses of blogs, social networks, and web communities=09
* knowledge-based recommender systems
* semantics of tags and merging of tags with ontologies
* merging of social media with semantic web
* social agent simulation
* common sense reasoning for the semantic web
* trend tracking, fashion, and forecasting
* computational semiotics of people and culture
