INTRODUCTION
=20
The International Joint Conference on Autonomous Agents and=20
Multi-Agent Systems (AAMAS) is the leading international=20
conference in the theory and practice of software agents. The=20
conference attracts delegates from many different=20
backgrounds; from those developing agent-based software=20
products and services to those working in the theoretical=20
foundations of the discipline.
The AAMAS-05 conference will be held in July 2005 in Utrecht,=20
the Netherlands, and will, for the first time, feature a=20
track specifically intended for industrial participants: the=20
AAMAS Industry Track. The industry track is being organised=20
in cooperation with AgentLink, Europe's IST-funded=20
coordination activity for autonomous agents and multi-agent=20
systems (see http://www.agentlink.org/).
=20
WHAT IS THE INDUSTRY TRACK?
=20
The AAMAS industry track is a special track at the AAMAS=20
conference that will run in parallel to the regular AAMAS=20
scientific track. It will feature presentations and=20
demonstrations from industrial participants, giving them an=20
opportunity to showcase the state of the art in technology=20
and industrial application of autonomous agents and=20
multi-agent systems to AAMAS delegates and to publish=20
associated papers in a high quality, formal proceedings. The=20
industry track aims to foster mutually beneficial links=20
between those engaged in foundational scientific research and=20
those working to make autonomous agents and multi-agent=20
systems a commercial reality. This enables industrially-based=20
software agent developers and practitioners to participate in=20
AAMAS in a meaningful way and to present their technology and=20
applications to both their peers and the associated=20
scientific community.
=20
HOW WILL THE TRACK BE REFEREED?
=20
Whereas in the regular conference track the overriding=20
refereeing criterion is clearly scientific excellence, the=20
industry track focuses primarily on the industrial relevance=20
and technological significance of the contribution.=20
Preference will be given to mature work demonstrating=20
concrete industrial/commercial results and business value.
=20
Examples of an "ideal" paper might include: (i) a=20
presentation of a particular kind of commercially available=20
software agent technology, together with experience of how=20
this was applied in a field-tested system; or (ii) a report=20
on a field-tested agent-based system.
=20
We explicitly discourage the submission of purely speculative=20
papers, proposals, and plans for future work/potential=20
applications. Academic participation in the industry track=20
is acceptable, but please note that we strongly discourage=20
the submission of: (i) papers that merely appeal to potential=20
applications, without demonstrating that they have been=20
meaningfully applied; (ii) academic papers that work with=20
highly abstracted versions of potential applications; or=20
(iii) academic papers that describe software agent=20
systems/platforms without either a real industrial link or=20
genuine application.
=20
In general, if you believe that your paper makes a scientific=20
contribution, you should think about submitting to the=20
regular scientific track; whereas, if your paper is an=20
overview of an agent technology, a "practical experience"=20
paper, or similar, then you should probably submit to the=20
industry track.
=20
HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE?
=20
The industry track invites developers, practitioners, and=20
industrial researchers to submit high quality papers on agent=20
technology and its applications. See the conference web site=20
for paper formatting and submission instructions.
=20
Accepted contributions will be formally published in the=20
"Proceedings of the Industry Track of AAMAS-05" and will be=20
distributed at the conference along with the AAMAS-05 main=20
conference proceedings. Selected publications will be=20
encouraged to present their applications in the AgentLink=20
newsletter. The contributions will influence the AgentLink=20
Roadmap to be published in 2005.
=20
Note that the Industry Track is part of the AAMAS conference=20
- there is no separate registration for the Industry Track.
