SPECIAL SESSION
"Challenges in Real World Optimization Using Meta-Heuristics"
4th WSEAS Int. Conf. on APPLIED MATHEMATICS and COMPUTER SCIENCE (AMCOS
2005)
Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil,
April 25-27, 2005
http://www.worldses.org/conferences/2005/brazil/amcos/index.html
EXTENDED DEADLINE FOR PAPER SUBMISSION: FEBRUARY 28, 2005
MOTIVATION AND TOPICS:
There have been significant advances in the theory and application of
Meta-Heuristics (MH) to solve hard optimization problems.
Meta-Heuristics form a class of powerful and practical solution
techniques for tackling complex, large-scale combinatorial problems. The
family of Meta-Heuristics includes, but it is not limited to Tabu
Search, Simulated Annealing, Adaptive Memory procedures, Ant Systems,
Soft Computing, Evolutionary Methods, Scatter Search and their hybrids.
The aim is to bring together scheduling researchers and practitioners
from all the disciplines that engage with Real World Optimization
research.
This special session invites submissions in all areas of Meta-Heuristic
application dealing with the challenges of applying MH techniques to
real world problems. General topics of interest include, but are not
limited to:
* Meta-Heuristics (Local Search, Tabu Search, Simulated Annealing,
Adaptive Memory procedures, Ant Systems, Fuzzy Logic, Soft Computing,
Evolutionary Methods, Scatter Search and their hybrids): Theory and
Foundations
* Dynamic Optimization Problems
* Performance Measurement in Dynamic Environments.
* Real-life Applications of Meta-Heuristics Approaches.
* Multi-objective Optimization Problems.
* Evolutionary Computing. Evolutionary Programming and Evolutionary
Strategies.
* Hybrid Optimization Techniques. Application of hybrid optimization
approaches to complex optimization problems; Hybridization of MHs with
state-of-the-art techniques frequently used in the optimization of
complex problems. Analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of today's
hybrid approaches.
* Common hybridization techniques, such as local improvement of
candidate solutions, intelligent chromosome decoders or heuristic
variation operators;
* Multi Agent Systems and Meta-heuristics
* Meta-heuristics in DataMining. Integrating Qualitative Knowledge in
Optimization.
* Promising directions for future research.
* Applications: Manufacturing, Medicine, Banking, Financing, Geography,
and all other practical disciples
