accurate transcript

The quote is close and certainly captures the spirit of what Peter said. I wanted to make sure I got it right for a talk, so I listened to the recorded version and made this transcription ...

37:20

"The other thing that I hadn't really thought about when we started this all is how kind of game theoretic the whole thing is. At first we thought of ourselves as this observer of the Web. That the Web was out there and we made a copy of it and indexed it and if people wanted they could come and access that index. but it was just a reflection of the Web out there. And now we understand that we're co-evolving with the Web and that when we make a move it changes the Web and when the Web changes we change and going back and forth. And so all the search engine optimizers and so on are watching and what we do and we watch what they do and the Web is the interaction between us. And that is something I hadn't even considered before we saw it happening."

Game theory is a field that is currently developing so fast and in so many areas that it is difficult to keep track of new ideas, open problems and its current status as a tool of scientific inquiry. Further, having paid a continuous interest to the field for some years, I have often found myself thinking about how and why the different prominent theorists in the field work with their ideas and what they are personally trying to accomplish. To begin with I thought that one little book would have difficulties both giving me much of the overview I wanted as well as answering my curiosity - however I was wrong. The book is extremely interesting as well as entertaining; a must read for anybody interested in game theory!

Good SPARQL demonstration site

OpenLink Software has a great interactive SPARQL demo that is very helpful in exploring both the SPARQL language and protocol. You can try out any of the RDF Data Access Working Group (DAWG) test case queries or enter your own ad hoc ones, on their data or yours. You an also easily see the actual request and response that go over the wire. I think this is a great aid to deepening your understanding of SPARQL.

Complex Adaptive Systems

A growing number of individuals, research groups and academics are looking at Complex Adaptive System concept. Till date several researchers are examining how an understanding of Complex Adaptive System theory can be applied to business.

As it's clear from your note that the theoretical understandings of CAS are beginning to gain acceptance, ImagineWeb
is one of the organizations carried out Complex Adaptive System (CAS)applications into real business world.

More information on how we are developing CAS based business, please visit our website: www.imagine-web.com

Why SOAP sucks.

Here is a post on Why SOAP Sucks by Nelson Minar, which is based on this funny because its true dialogue about SOAP. Both of these give a good insight as to why SOAP is too complicated for the programmer on the trenches who just wants to get her program working and go home.

Is SOAP too complicated?

I recall an interview with one of the flickr founders. He said that they have made a SOAP and a REST APIs available. Everyone uses the REST api!

If SOAP is too complicated for the average programmer to use, what about OWL? what about BPEL4WS? These are way more complicated than SOAP. I foresee them dissapearing in the near future to be replaced by an ugly hodge-podge of XmlHTTPRequests and Javascript with informal semantic meaning attached to XML tags.

It seems, only the simplest survive, and then evolves into one complicated mess. For example, HTML.
